Looking for roofing services in Broadstairs?
Broadstairs is home for us. Frampton Roofing is based here, and most weeks you'll find our van parked on a street somewhere between Viking Bay and Botany — because this is where we started, and it's still where a good part of our work comes from.
Colin Frampton has been roofing for over twenty years, fifteen of them working with specialist fibreglass, and in that time we've been up on just about every kind of roof the town has to offer. Victorian bay-fronted terraces near the front. Nineteen-thirties semis up towards St Peter's. Flat-roofed garages and kitchen extensions. And the odd seafront property that takes a proper battering every winter.
When you call a roofer in Broadstairs, you shouldn't get a call centre and a salesman. You get Colin — the same person who comes out to look at the roof, prices the work, and stands behind it afterwards.
Roofs in Broadstairs: what we see most
Broadstairs is a lovely place to live and a demanding place to be a roof. We're on a chalk headland sticking out into the North Sea, and the weather comes in off the water with nothing much to slow it down. Salt-laden wind, driving rain, and the occasional storm that finds every weak point on a roof in a single night.
The housing stock doesn't make it any easier. A lot of the town is Victorian and Edwardian — bay windows, steep pitches, tall chimney stacks and plenty of lead detailing around valleys and parapets. Those roofs were built properly, but a hundred years of weather takes its toll on mortar, flashings and cement fillets long before it troubles the slates.
Further out, around St Peter's, Dumpton and Botany, you get inter-war and post-war semis with concrete tiles and shallower pitches, plus the garages, dormers and flat-roofed extensions that were added on later. Flat roofs are where we spend a lot of our time. Plenty of them were originally felt or asphalt, and once those start to go there's rarely much point patching them.
The jobs we're called out to most in Broadstairs are fairly consistent: slipped or wind-lifted tiles after a gale, leaks tracking down from a chimney with failed flashings, cracked cement fillets, blocked or sagging gutters, and flat roofs that have blistered and split. Closer to the sea at Kingsgate, Joss Bay and Stone Bay we see more salt and wind damage than we do a mile inland — exposed gable ends and chimney stacks take the worst of it.</p>
What we do in Broadstairs
We're a small local firm, so we'd rather cover a handful of things properly than everything badly. Here's what we get called out for:
- Flat & fibreglass roofing — our speciality. Seamless GRP fibreglass flat roofs backed by our personal 20-year guarantee, on garages, extensions, dormers and balconies.
- Re-roofing — full roof replacements, stripped back to the timbers, with new membrane, battens and tiles.
- Roof repairs — leaks, storm damage and slipped tiles: the things that need sorting this week rather than next year.
- Tiled & slate roofing — Kent peg and clay tiles, natural and artificial slate, and concrete tiles.
- Chimney repairs & repointing — repointing, flaunching, lead flashings, cement fillets and chimney removals.
- Guttering, fascias & soffits — clearing, repairing and replacing rainwater goods before they cause damage inside the house.
- Drone roof surveys — a proper look at a roof nobody can safely get to, with photos so you can see exactly what we've seen.
